Melbourne's Legendary MoVida Restaurant Comes To Auckland!

18 August - 17 September 2016 | Ostro City Terrace

Tues | 5pm - Late

Wed - Sat | 12-3pm & 5pm - Late

What's the next best option if you can't fly Auckland to Melbourne? Bring Melbourne to Auckland! That's what's happening at Ostro this month, and we're squeally excited to be the official wine sponsors!

MoVida is absolutely rockin known as the best Spanish restaurant in Melbourne, not far from Federation Square. It started off as a casual tapas bar and has grown wings developed into a dining room with a really long queue bookings months in advance.

For a month, MoVida will be bringing the taste of their Melbourne restaurant to Ostro in Auckland's coolest spot Britomart with a delicious menu of Spanish tapas paired with Squealing Pig wines. Bookings are essential and trust us, you won't want to miss out on a MoVida siesta of your own...

Here's what we got up to earlier...

How It Works

Get ready to fight over share - in real Spanish style, most of the dishes are in itty bitty small bites. You'll be wanting to try everything anyway, so pick a few different dishes and pig out enjoy.

Small Bites

To start things off, we ordered the Queso; whipped goat's milk cheese wrapped in quince paste and brik pastry. It sounds really tricky complicated, but these rolls of cheesy deliciousness are soft, crunchy, sweet and savoury all at the same time. Mmm mmm!

We paired it with Squealing Pig Rosé.

Movida Balls

Next up were tasty spicy eye-ball lookalikes the Bombas; catalan potato bombs filled with chorizo. Bomba is a classic tapas dish from Barcelona, and we hoofed them down were more than pleased that they've made their way to New Zealand.

If you like deep fried goodness with a kick - this is a dish for you. Get the recipe here.

Pair with Squealing Pig Central Otago Pinot Noir.

These were probably definitely our favourite bites from the tapas menu, the Croquetas. Here's a fun fact, croquetas in Spain are a ridiculously delicious way of using up left over fish or stew.

These ones from MoVida were like food from the gods silky and crunchy, filled with sweet, caramel-like Jerusalem artichoke.

Make sure you get a whole plateful few because these are seriously moreish.

We liked these best with Squealing Pig Central Otago Pinot Gris.

Bigger Stuff

For the main event, we got really stuck in a variety of veg and meat dishes - and we loved all of them! Here's what we tried from left to right in the image.

Lamb - slow cooked and melt-in-your-mouth with a delicious tomato based sauce.

Crispy Brussel Sprouts - like brussel sprout chips... you'll like these even if you're a sprout hater.

Beef Cheek - we had to order an extra one of these because we got carried away really liked this dish. Slowly braised in Pedro Ximenez with creamy cauliflower puree, this is sticky, sweet and savoury at its best. We're in love! Get the recipe here.

Movida Flan

Like Creme Caramel? Come on, why wouldn't you? This dessert was enough to put us into a food induced coma the perfect dish to finish our afternoon.

MoVida wasn't skimpy on the portion, and we were glad - this silky, sweet custard topped with burnt caramel will knock your trots off was delicious.
